“Batman” Star Receives a Long Awaited Honor

Adam West, who is best known for his role as television’s “Batman”, received the 2,468th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday in front of the Guinness World Records Museum.

Speakers at the event included Hollywood Chamber of Commerce President Leron Gubler, KROQ radio personality Ralph Garman, “Family Guy” creator Seth Mcfarlane, and of course Adam West, himself.

The location for the star was chosen, Gubler said, because West holds the world record for individual screen appearances as Batman with 156.

“The other record that may be in the book, I’m not sure, but I think I have the record as the actor who’s waited the longest to get his star on this cement,” said 83 year old West.

His career began in 1959 and still continues today.

“There’s an old saying that goes ‘You should never meet your heroes, they’ll only disappoint you.’ These people always forget the second half of that saying, which is ‘Unless that hero is Adam West,’” said Garman, West’s friend and “Family Guy” colleague.

“We are thrilled to honor Adam with this prestigious award. Fans have been waiting for this special day for many years. Adam West fired up the billion dollar “Batman” franchise… He deserves his place of honor on our famed Walk of Fame,” said Gubler.

West’s Hollywood career began when we was cast opposite Paul Newman in “The Young Philadelphians”, but his big break came in 1965 when he was cast in the role of Batman on the ABC series of the same name.

Although the series was short-lived, West has remained synonymous with the superhero for nearly 50 years.

Mcfarlane works closely with West on “Family Guy”, where West is currently the voice of the mayor of the fictional town of Quahog, R.I.

“It is my hope that at age 110, I will see you at “Family Guy” conventions, signing autographs for a whole new generation of loners and psychopaths,” said Mcfarlane.

He added, “Nearly 50 years ago you entertained television viewers weekly. Today, nearly half a century later, you’re still doing exactly that. Not many actors in the history of this industry can make that indelible claim.  Congratulations Adam West.”

West’s star can be found near the intersection of Hollywood and Highland Boulevards.
